We're proud to be an ALL VOLUNTEER organization that is powered by real people, working together, to build a better world, ward and a better Chicago.
How to Get Involved in 33rd Ward Working Families:
Organizing is participatory! Everyone has a different level of engagement and capacity. We want you to find the level of engagement and issues that matter to you. We encourage folks who are interested in plugging into our organization to sign-up here and let us know what kind of work you're interested in doing. Below are just a few options for ways to get involved in the organization.
- Attend an Event: Each month we have a myriad of meetings for the entire organization, different ad hoc working groups, and regular meetings for our committees. We have 5 different committees: Comms & Arts Committee, Community Engagement Committee, Membership Committee, Organizing Committee and Political Committee. Each committee meets at least 1x per month. We also host a free, pop-up coffee hour and a book club once a month. Check out our calendar here and RSVP for an event to attend.
- Join us for a Canvass: Throughout the year, regardless of the election cycle, our precinct organizers spend time walking through the neighborhood and speaking with neighbors about relevant topics to the community and during elections seasons, about candidates we support. Canvasses are a great opportunity to meet neighbors, see all the beauty and hidden gems throughout the 33rd Ward and learn about the needs and issues facing our community. If it's your first time or you're nervous, please let us know and we will provide support (canvassing with a buddy, practicing conversations, finding different roles related to canvasses, etc) and do our best to provide a comfortable and enriching experience through canvassing. If you are interested in canvassing and organizing your block, please type that into the sign-up sheet so someone from our Precinct Organizer program can reach out to you directly.
- Drop-in to Our Monthly General Meeting: On the 3rd Saturday of each month, at 1pm, we gather for a hybrid general member meeting. You can attend in-person at 3248 W. Montrose or RSVP online to receive a video meeting link. This is a great opportunity to meet people from the organization and learn a little more about the work we do.
- Join or Attend a Meeting with Another Organization: Perhaps you're a real go-getter and see that there is another group meeting in the ward for a specific cause that matters to you, do it! We have a list of organizations throughout the ward and the city where you can also plug in and start engaging. Check out our Org. Yellow Pages here for a list of different groups where you can plug in.
- Sign-up for email newsletters & Follow Us on Social Media: There are links all over the website, but here are links to our instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky.
