If Chicago is looking for a cohesive progressive and socialist vision, it has already found one in our current Mayor: Brandon Johnson.

We agree wholeheartedly with the analysis that, “Chicago doesn’t have a mayor problem, it has an alderman problem.” At every turn, the Corporate Caucus has fought common-sense policies like a corporate tax to fund public safety and replaced them with right-wing fantasy bids and failed budget plans.

It is planning to do the same thing for this budget this year.

Chicago is facing unprecedented challenges, at a time when billionaires and conservative politics are ascendant. With Brandon Johnson as mayor, we can fight against these forces to tax the rich, fund our schools, address the root causes of public safety, and invest in our communities.

During his term, Mayor Brandon Johnson has reopened public mental health centers, expanded the non-police alternative emergency CARE program city-wide, created a Green Social Housing program and fought for progressive taxation to fund our city services by taxing the rich, despite continual opposition from the corporate caucus in City Council. That is why 33rd Ward Working Families is proud to endorse Brandon Johnson for re-election as Mayor of Chicago.

We have seen the results: Crime is down to the lowest levels since the 1960s.

We are socialists and progressives who have been looking for ways to bring our vision of housing, healthcare, and dignity for all people to governance, and we have taken an electoral approach to get there. We supported Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, State Representative Graciela Guzman, State Representative-to-be Miguel Alvelo Rivera, and, back in 2023, Brandon Johnson for mayor.

We believe the best path to continuing to build that coalition and finally tax the rich to fund the city we deserve is through a second term with Mayor Brandon Johnson.
